This is a crazy place we have seen a couple of times when we have been driving south on the main road from Sozopol down to Primorsko, so on our last visit to Sozopol, we decided to pop in and check it out.

It is just on the edge of the village of Ravadinovo, a couple of kilometres outside of Sozopol. Ravadinovo castle stands in several acres of land, basically in a field, not far off the main road running south from Sozopol.

It is a work in progress, having been started over 20 years ago. The gardens appear more or less finished and there is an artificial lake with swans and other birds, an area with donkeys and alpacas, peacocks wandering around, ponies and fish ponds.

The main building is not yet finished and access inside is restricted. The walls of the castle are covered in ivy and carvings.

It costs 10 levs per person to get in (about 5 Euros) and there is plenty of parking outside the castle, but no shade.

There are no guided tours, you just wander around at your own pace, exploring the little paths, the Chinese pergola’s, the little chapel and fountains, the statutes and beautiful flowers.

There are even underground chambers with suits of armour and all sorts. You should set aside a couple of hours to explore, sit and enjoy the scenery.

There are a couple of bars where you can get canned drinks and smoothies (at rather inflated prices). We visited in early June so we were not there in high season, the place was fairly quiet.

It seemed that the bars may provide basic grilled food when there was more call for it.

Its a lovely relaxed place to visit when you want a break from the beach and pools and hustle and bustle of the resort.
